This Easter, 2010, I travel to Bhopal. If you don’t know about Bhopal, go to www.bhopal.org. As the website explains, Bhopal was the scene of the worst industrial accident in human history. A pesticide factory gassed the city in a catastrophic accident that killed an estimated 8000 people that night, and tens of thousand more over the months and years to follow. Even now, an estimated 50,000 people are chronically ill and desperately impoverished. The Indian economic boom has largely bypassed Bhopal, a city that Greenpeace describes as a ‘Global toxic hotspot.
